Fashion Nostalgia - Jem and the Holograms (Part 1)

This is a new addition to the blog called Fashion Nostalgia, where I recap different fashionable related subjects of the past, weather it be music videos, celebrities in their past apperances, tv shows, movies, etc. Now to start off with my new column, is by introducing one of my favorite fashionable animated tv shows from the 80s that is truly outrageous! Jem!!

Created by Christy Marx, Jem is an animated television series that ran in the mid-80s. The show is about music company owner Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego Jem, her band the Holograms, and their fashionable and outrageous adventures. If you want the full details about the show check out its wikipedia page @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_%28TV_series%29#Production.

Jem wasn't only popular for its not so subtle soap opera plotline that blew by head when I was younger but for its wicked animation. While I was interested in the dramatic storyline, I was also very interested in the fashion that the characters of the show.

Jerrica Benton, the president of Starlight Music and Head Mother of Starlight House for Foster Girls, style showcases her mature and professional attitude. Even when your a young president of a music company, having a chic sense of style while being professional is normal for Jerrica.  Whenever she's not Jem, Jerrica trys her best to keep everything under control whether its Starlight House, Starlight Music, or her love life with Rio, her boyfriend/long-time friend since childhood/band manager for Jem and the Holograms.

Jem, alter-ego of Jerrica Benton, showcases a style that reflects the different kinds of adventure she and her band encounters. Even with outfits that match the episode's plot, Jem's outfits reflects her fun and musical personality. Jem can always brighten the room with bright colors, unparalleled outfits, and her outrageously big pink hair.

Just like Jem's song this is "only the beginning" of the a new section of the blog that will catch the attention of not only of you online shakers but also to you radio listeners. This is the end of part 1 of Fashion Nostalgia with Jem and Holograms, but I will be back with more and the showcasing the other characters from series and their own sense of style. Keep on Stylin!
